Proofreading

starting at 0.01$/word, 50% discount for all new clients.
New clients get a free 500 word sample edit for all projects under 30,000 words, and a free 1000 word sample edit for projects over 30,000 words in order to see if I’m the right fit for your project.
What is proofreading: Proofreading is the final step before publication. It entails checking for grammar, spelling, and punctuation mistakes that may have been missed in previous editing passes. This includes correcting typos, double words, formatting issues, capitalization, and inconsistencies.
Proofreading should not change the tone, style, or structure of the prose, these types of corrections fall under copyediting.
I base my corrections on CMOS (the Chicago Manual of Style 17th ed.) and Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate and Unabridged Dictionaries. I’ll make edits using Track Changes in Word to complete the work.

Beta Reading

All Beta Reading services are free of charge.
What is Beta Reading: Beta reading is giving feedback on a manuscript from a reader’s point of view. Beta reading is not editing. Typically, Beta reading is done after the manuscript is complete and self-edited (at minimum), to see how the story might be received by the average reader. Beta readers focus on plot, characterization, pacing, dialogue, conflict, and description.
When I beta read, I give chapter by chapter constructive comments, as well as a big picture overview. It’s always my goal to pair constructive criticism with positive feedback, what I think works and what I think needs improvement, with suggestions on how to improve.
I have a questionnaire with pertinent questions that I aim to answer while I read, some examples of those questions are:
- Does each scene flow naturally into the next?
- Can you see the action clearly while reading?
- Can you see the characters clearly while reading?
- Does the dialogue sound natural?
- What is your favorite part and why?
- What is your least favorite part and why?
- Does the character development feel natural?
If there are any particular sections you would like me to focus on, or you have some specific questions you’d like answered, or even that you have your own questionnaire you would rather I work with, I am happy to accommodate.
Submission Guidelines: Beta Reading
